Learning Objectives: Explain how the Internet can be utilized to effectively and efficiently share resources (including media campaign ads/templates) with all local coalitions and other tobacco control partners.
Abstract: Coalition leaders are faced with multiple challenges, including limited funding and manpower; however, most problematic is their lack of time. They are overloaded by information from multiple sources. Yet, even with the amount of information available, they don’t have the time to become experts on every topic or have time to locate the resources they really need.
Recognizing this, the Wisconsin Tobacco Control Board decided to streamline this function by providing a comprehensive resource where coalitions can easily, quickly and conveniently access information and tools that are relevant and necessary to achieve their objectives. The Counter-marketing Resource Center (CRC) was developed providing a user-friendly, comprehensive, on-line resource location. This comprehensive resource center also ensures consistency of messages coming from the WTCB and other state partners. The CRC is password protected and includes the following counter-marketing, news and publicity resources: § Archived customizable releases (by month/year) § Daily news list serve e-mails § Announcements from the Board or funded programs § How-to’s and guides § Updated media lists § Advertising Campaign ads and templates § Logos § Counter-Marketing Idea of the Month (Submitted by coalitions, chosen by the WTCB) § Menu of Training &Technical Assistance offerings
The CRC is new for 2002 and will be evaluated throughout the year. The WTCB and its counter-marketing agency, BVK, will solicit coalition feedback. Because the resource is on-line, BVK is able to track, monitor and evaluate (number of unique visitors, online traffic patterns and most-used resources, etc). Coalition members are also able to directly e-mail BVK from the site with questions and problems.
