Learning Objectives: Identify means to success for tobacco prevention programs based on the experiences of TPP administrators, "partners," and advocates.
Abstract: As a means to gain a more in-depth understanding of the methods and direction various states are taking with their tobacco funds, RMS Research will conduct a multi-state survey research project. The primary objective is to obtain an in-depth understanding of attitudes and opinions regarding tobacco prevention program successes and, perhaps more importantly, lessons learned.
RMS Research will attempt to conduct interviews among the 435 tobacco prevention administrators, “partners,” and other advocates nationwide utilizing the 2001 National Conference on Tobacco or Health attendee directory. A cover letter along with a questionnaire will be distributed via e-mail or fax to the target audience. The cover letter will explain the objectives of the project and that the results of the study will be presented at the 2002 National Conference on Tobacco or Health in San Francisco, California, November 19 – 21, 2002.
Specific topic areas for the study may include: · General program guidelines and perceived obstacles · Program funding issues · Concerns regarding any reductions in program funding · Working with program “partners” · Program evaluation methods · Vendor product and service critique.
This study will serve as a baseline for tobacco prevention programs nationwide and as a means to evaluate changes future tracking studies.
