Abstract: AUDIENCE: State and national tobacco control and cessation professionals; professionals from public health, clinical settings, and those from the business sector with an interest in tobacco and/or cessation.
KEY POINTS: Existing guidelines for tobacco cessation have documented science-based and effective interventions for clinical and community settings. However, these guidelines have not yet been widely implemented by clinicians and public health professionals. Presenter will describe the newly established Alliance for Tobacco Cessation, and its efforts to help implement the guidelines through advocacy for cessation legislation, action by federal agencies, and action by private sector corporations. The Alliance for Tobacco Cessation (ATC) is a coalition of organizations committed to promoting public and private sector policy changes that will expand the availability and use of effective cessation treatment and activities. ATC has developed a policy agenda and worked to coordinate advocacy campaigns to achieve priority objectives. Progress towards achievement of this policy agenda will be described through case study descriptions.
