Problem/Objective: Describe key components of an education outreach program. Identify objectives for program planning and evaluation. Locate resources and information which effectively meets program goals and learning objectives.

Methods: Healthcare professionals, outreach workers, educators, and public health professionals will benefit from an introduction to tobacco education curriculum design and implementation. These individuals are often called upon to present to students and groups in their communities regarding the health effects of tobacco use. Results: 1.) Outreach programs can maximize community resources to plan a comprehensive education approach. Key program components make the best use of community resources and bring a local focus to the curriculum. 2.) Effective education curriculum is designed with the learner in mind. With proper planning, programs can implement teaching strategies that are age-appropriate and address learner needs. A variety of teaching strategies and hands-on activities enhance the experience of the learners. 3.) Program planning and evaluation is a dynamic process. Practical program goals and learning objectives can be measured in the short- and long-term. Workshop participants will learn a variety of strategies in order to attract and keep the attention of learners. They will be able to implement the resources and tobacco education information available in order to effectively meet program goals.

Conclusions: Tobacco control professionals are often asked to share their expertise with students and community groups. Tobacco education curriculum can effectively address the needs of learners in your community.
