Learning Objectives: Attendees will learn how their organization can achieve the CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation

Problem/Objective: Attendees will learn how their organization can achieve the CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation. Problem: Organizations do not have a standardized means of creating a culture that encourages healthy and tobacco-free lifestyles and provides the support needed when a diagnosis of cancer becomes a reality.

Methods: The main goals of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer are to fight cancer by risk reduction, early detection, and quality care. Organizations achieve the Gold Standard by implementing policies and programs to address each of 5 “pillars:”

Results: In the fall of 2006 the American Legacy Foundation completed the application for the CEO Cancer Gold Standard. Each section of the application demonstrated how the organization fit the criteria required. In order to ensure a Tobacco Free Workplace, a policy was created to prohibit smoking from the premises and off-site conferences, and establish a non-smoking area surrounding the building. In addition, the organization created a Tobacco Cessation Program, supporting any employee or dependent who is trying to quit smoking. The organization offers reimbursement anonymously through a third-party administrator to cover the cost or co-pay of nicotine replacement therapies, prescription drugs, and counseling. In January of 2007 the organization was awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard.

Conclusions: The guidelines for achieving the CEO Cancer Gold Standard easily enable organizations to provide a thorough cancer prevention program for their employees.
