Audience: Tobacco Control Professionals Key Points: Given the complexity of the issues surrounding tobacco prevention and control, the technique of message mapping can be employed by tobacco control professionals. Message mapping is a process that facilitates an organization's capacity to communicate information that is accurate, clear, consistent across channels, and credible. Message maps can be created either in advance or during emerging health events. Message maps are a strategic tool that can be used for tobacco communication because they provide a roadmap and a unifying framework for core information that can be used in different contexts such as for oral and/or electronic communication. Learning Objectives: This session will exercise key elements of a strategic message development process so that participants will: 1. learn the principles and process of message mapping and how it can be used in tobacco countermarking, control and policy communication 2. develop a map to address a current tobacco communication issue 3. understand next steps for integrating mapping activities into communication planning.
