Learning Objectives: Evaluate staff knowledge and motivation for implementing tobacco dependence treatment services within the mental health setting. Identify and implement strategies for increasing motivation, addressing learning needs, developing buy-in and encouraging leadership among agency staff. Identify steps for implementing tobacco treatment programming within an agency's mission and resources.
Key Points: Information presented will be based on review of current tobacco control and program development literature as well as a case presentation of two outpatient mental health treatment settings. The key points of this presentation will include; 1. Readiness assessment—Presenters will discuss tools and strategies to assess community/agency needs and staff motivation, knowledge and commitment to implementing tobacco services. 2. Developing buy-in—Presenters will discuss strategies for increasing awareness, addressing educational needs and increasing motivation and commitment among staff for providing tobacco dependence treatment services. 3. Leadership—Presenters will discuss the importance of developing leadership among staff. They will provide strategies for identifying and fostering leaders and an outline for a leadership role and responsibilities. 4. Sustaining momentum—The presenters will utilize personal experiences to provide examples of how momentum can be maintained, obstacles to keeping the energy high, addressing saturation of the community, reengaging participants in treatment and working within the boundaries of an agency's mission and resources.

Identify and implement strategies to increasing and sustain motivation, address learning needs and develop leadership in their agency. 3.
