Learning Objectives: Identify resources available to state tobacco control programs through the Tobacco Control Network.
Methods: The aims of the Tobacco Control Network are to help tobacco control program managers and staff from each state, territory, and the District of Columbia face the complex challenges of tobacco control as well as share their expertise through networking with their colleagues, publicizing national happenings, and sharing policy and programming strategies. The TCN completes these functions through various mechanisms, including a listserv, a bi-monthly newsletter, an email alert system, committees, a mentoring program, and informational teleconferences.
Results: The TCN provides a structure and forum for states to exchange information, stay informed on critical issues, and develop leadership; it has has allowed state tobacco control to have a unified voice with the National Tobacco Control Program and helps raise the priority of state needs on the agenda of various national tobacco control organizations.
Conclusions: The TCN represents a coordinated effort that assists state tobacco control programs as they work toward reducing tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
