Learning Objectives: Access, utilize, and point out key features of the Alan Blum Smokeless Collection
Dr. Blum is a leader, voice, and activist for the public health as well as an important and prolific collector of historical tobacco related materials including: articles, papers, books, magazines, books, television commercials, print advertising, and conference materials, among many other tobacco collectibles, including smokeless tobacco historical items.
Methods: As Director, The University of Alabama Center for the Study of Tobacco and Society Alan Blum in conjunction with the Roswell Cancer institute has started the digitization of a large collection of smokeless tobacco materials for public web access. Thousands of various collected smokeless artifacts and media artifacts are being digitized and indexed to develop this collection.
Results: Smokeless Collection will feature smokeless tobacco items, articles, advertisements, documents, video, literature, and conference materials. This important collection marks the first central and publicly accessible smokeless collection on the web. The collection is also unique in that fully indexed documents will be linked to associated materials as well as historical events.
Conclusions: Participants will learn how to access the smokeless tobacco collection as well as view examples of its rich contents.
