Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) has been identified as one of the 8 priority skills areas necessary for new public health professionals, but little has been discussed about the process and methods in CBPR particularly involving communities of color and LGBT communities (or Priority Populations). This session will provide key case studies of both challenges and innovative methodologies of involving priority populations in CBPR. The session will facilitate a meaningful dialogue on how these issues impact CBPR in a growing number of research projects on tobacco control in priority populations.

Learning Objectives:

Learn key elements and principles in conducting community-based participatory research with priority populations

Learn about innovative methodologies used in CBPR with priority populations

Discuss challenges and opportunities in expanding the role of priority populations in CBPR

Benefits: Critical dialogue on CBPR in priority populations; learn new cutting edge methodologies on CBPR; discuss new opportunities and challenges of CBPR
